The standard four-cylinder engine and optional V-6 are joined by an all-new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. With the model line's most dirt-ready suspension and all-wheel-drive systems standard, the Trailhawk is also the rare compact crossover with legitimate off-road chops. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is an option and it provides similar power but earns only a 4000-pound maximum tow rating.

The Trailhawk comes standard with the 3.2-liter V-6 that provides an impressive-for-its-class 4500-pound maximum towing capacity, when equipped with the Trailer Tow package. It offers a unique blend of capability in the crowded compact-crossover class. It's on the pricey side of the five-model Cherokee lineup, but the Trailhawk would be our choice. Jeep also is offering two new paint colors for the new year: Sangria and Spitfire Orange. Newly available, though, is an Advanced Safety Group package that includes lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Cherokee underwent a significant mechanical and cosmetic update for the 2019 model year, so changes to the 2020 version are minimal. Further, the Cherokee offers subpar fuel economy compared to its raft of competitors. Though slightly larger than its sibling, the Mexico-assembled Compass, the U.S.-built Cherokee offers less maximum cargo space. The Cherokee also has a comfortable ride and is available in almost all versions with either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations. These include impressive towing capacity, when properly configured, while the Trailhawk version offers a level of off-road versatility unusual in its class. Unless you're looking to tow or go off-roading, there are many other choices in the segment.Īs the largest of Jeep's fleet of small-ish crossovers, the 2020 Cherokee distinguishes itself from its showroom brothers (notably, the nearly-as-large Compass) with its off-road capabilities. Poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, not a great value. Legitimate off-road capability, good ride and handling for the class, Jeep badge adds cred.
